Forex Trading Plan for Prop-Firm Traders
Prop Firm Challenge Plan Builder
A structured plan for prop firm challenge traders and funded account holders. Select your mode below, complete all sections, then print or save as PDF.
Section 1
Trader and Account Profile
Start with the basics. This information frames every other decision in this plan.
Section 2 — Challenge Mode
Challenge Structure and Phase Rules
Select your challenge type then fill in the exact rules for each phase. Copy these directly from your firm’s rules document. Do not rely on memory.
Important: These figures must match your firm’s official rules exactly. Differences between your notes and the actual rules have ended thousands of challenges. Verify each number against the challenge dashboard or rules page before you start trading.
Phase 1
Phase 2 — Verification
Phase 3 — Final Verification
Section 3
Firm Rules and Permitted Strategies
Read your firm’s rules document fully and answer every item below. Gaps in this section are gaps in your challenge preparation.
Any other firm-specific rules not covered above
Section 4
Personal Risk Parameters
These are your own internal rules, set independently of the firm’s external rules. Your personal limits must always sit inside the firm’s limits with meaningful buffer.
The buffer principle: Your personal daily stop should be set at roughly 60% of the firm’s daily limit. If the firm allows 5% daily loss, your personal stop should be 3%. This buffer prevents a bad session from becoming a rule violation.
Challenge: 0.5 to 1%. Funded: up to 1 to 2%.
Set this below the firm’s daily limit
At what point do you tighten your rules?
Section 5
Strategy and Entry Rules
Your strategy rules must be defined before the challenge starts. Do not change your strategy mid-challenge regardless of results. A single strategy consistently applied over a full challenge produces better outcomes than switching approaches after a losing streak.
What must be present on the chart before you will consider a trade?
Section 6 — Challenge Mode
Phase-by-Phase Execution Plan
Define your exact behaviour for each phase of the challenge. This section converts strategy knowledge into operational discipline.
Buffer Building Phase (Days 1 to 5)
Lower risk, highest-conviction setups only, build a 1 to 2% cushion before pushing toward the target
Main Execution Phase (Days 6 to 75% of Target)
Standard risk, consistent execution, no target-checking during sessions
Defensive Mode (75% of Target Reached)
This is where most challenges are lost. Tighten, do not relax.
Target Reached — Minimum Days Completion
If you hit the target before minimum days are met, you must keep trading carefully
Section 7
Daily Challenge Dashboard
Update these figures at the start of every trading session. These numbers are your operational reference for the day.
Discipline tip: Write today’s dollar limits in a visible place at your trading station before opening the platform. Knowing your exact stopping points before you start prevents emotional calculation errors during a live session.
Section 8
Psychology and Challenge Rules
Prop firm challenges create specific psychological pressures that regular personal account trading does not. Define your response to each one before they occur, not in the moment.
What changes when you reach 75% of your profit target?
This must be automatic and non-negotiable
Based on your own observed behaviour — what specific rule do you need most in a prop firm environment?

My Commitment to This Plan
Sign this plan before your first trading session. A plan you have formally committed to is significantly more likely to be followed under pressure than one treated as a casual reference document.
